NEBOSH CERTIFICATE IN FIRE SAFETY & RISK MANAGEMENT
With the adoption of risk based fire safety solutions under the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations in 1997, the onus for providing a work environment safe from fire moved away from the Fire & Rescue Service Inspector to the owner/occupier/manager of premises used as places of work.
This has been further developed by the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order (RRFSO) 2005, which has repealed the Fire Precautions Act 1971 and the Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997, and also abolished the Fire Certificate.
Fire risks change all the time in any occupied building, and the solutions and systems put in place as a result of the initial risk assessment must be constantly reviewed and monitored to ensure they remain appropriate and effective. Risk based solutions for fire safety also depends, for their effectiveness, on every employee understanding the rationale behind certain measures and appreciating the consequences of any lapse or failure. This means that there is an ongoing need for training and commitment on the part of everyone in a company.
